How a Delighter is Born
Hello everyone! Today, let's take a tour of a new joiner's first week at DelightRoom.
Welcoming a new family member is always a nerve-wracking yet exciting event. A DelightRoom newbie's first day always kicks off with a Slack notification from Lucy, the refreshing problem-solver of our People & Culture team.
1. Slack Notification — Welcome to your first day!
For newbie Delighters who are excited but inevitably nervous about unfamiliar colleagues and a new office environment, our Delighters pour out a flood of passionate welcome messages! Lucy opens the first day so that senior Delighters can reach out and lend a helping hand whenever needed.
2. Welcome Kit — We didn't know what you'd like, so we prepared everything!
The DelightRoom welcome kit is full of colorful gifts for new joiners! We've prepared everything from tumblers, notebooks, and pens to stickers, Post-it sets, hoodies, and eco bags. Can you see the Macbook and 4K monitor, prepped to their requested specs, along with a business card filled with welcome messages from Delighters, just waiting for the new Delighter? Not to mention, personal business cards for the newbie are a given!
3. Welcome Board — Cheering on your first step into DelightRoom!
The first thing you see when you open the door to the DelightRoom office is the welcome board! It's usually used as a dashboard displaying key metrics, but on a new joiner's first day, we specially put up a welcome message all day long. The photos show the welcome boards for our most recent hires, Jelly and Min. Is it just me, or does it feel like the seasons are changing in the blink of an eye?
4. Office Tour — We don't just welcome you with words!
If we only welcomed you on Slack and the welcome board, we'd just be online friends, right? On the first day when a new Delighter arrives, our People & Culture fairy Lucy flies around the office to personally introduce them to other Delighters. Where's Lucy, you ask? She's right behind this photo, getting the perfect angle! Because DelightRoom has a well-established flexible work policy, we say our hellos sequentially as everyone arrives for their core working hours. Just look at our iOS group's Jason and Smith warmly welcoming our new joiner, Jelly!
5. Welcome Lunch — Good times call for delicious food!
When a new Delighter joins, the feast at DelightRoom doesn't stop all week! At least, not until everyone in each group and squad has had a meal with the newcomer! Since we cover up to 20,000 KRW per person at a time, the new Delighter can eat their favorite foods to their heart's content for an entire week. Delighters take this time to ease the tension, chat, and get to know each other over a meal! You can conquer almost every type of delivery food imaginable for a week—pizza, sushi, tacos, family restaurants, you name it. 🤣

6. Group and Squad Onboarding — Because it'd be a bummer to just eat and part ways!
Our Delighters think it's just too sad to part ways right after eating! At DelightRoom, after sharing a welcome lunch with a new joiner and loosening up, we hold an onboarding session for each group and squad. For about an hour, we take the time to explain in detail what kind of work each group is doing, what the most important recent projects are, and answer any questions. It's essentially an "Ask Me Anything" session exclusively for the new Delighter! On top of that, an always-on Q&A channel is running in Slack so you can comfortably fire away questions anytime!!

8. New Joiner Intro at the Town Hall — ✨ User Manual: If I Had to Describe Myself!
The finale of our long welcoming ceremony is the "User Manual: If I Had to Describe Myself!" session. It's a time dedicated to introducing new Delighters during our town hall meeting, which takes place every Friday as an all-hands. By sharing details about "me"—like favorite foods, things I can't eat, and situations I find difficult—we use this opportunity to learn what to be mindful of and discover things we can enjoy together. Whether it's sharing a hobby or showing off a pet, you can talk about absolutely anything you want to share with your fellow Delighters!
